I absolutely love the fall, don’t you? In Atlantic Canada, where I live, it arrives with it’s crisp morning air, bright autumn leaves and the scent of the neighbourhood bonfires in the evening. This is the time that I reluctantly trade my Birkenstock sandals for leather boots and socks. Traditionally, I start a new knitting (or crocheting) project, that will take me into the long evenings of winter, while I listen to an audiobook or stream a cozy mystery.

This year is a little different, my youngest daughter, Olivia is getting married to her amazing fiance Cody, next weekend. For weeks we have been organizing and preparing. Last weekend we pressed cider and filled a hamper with autumn flowers that are now drying in the rafters of my barn. This coming week will be the busiest of all; I am making the wedding cake, arranging the bridal bouquet the flowers and hosting the rehearsal dinner and the Sunday Morning brunch.

It sounds like a lot, but it won’t happen without the help. My longtime friend Nancy, will be here. She always picks up the pieces. She sees what needs to be done, and it is always magically perfect. My cousin Jan, and her daughter Maya will also arrive. Jan is my voice of reason, my alter ego. She is the city mouse to my country mouse, and she will always tell me when things have crossed that line from cute to tacky.
